August brings us the annual Derek Davis Memorial Run 5k. This race honors the life and legacy of Holly Springs runner, Derek Davis. In April 2015, Derek was out running with his wife, Amanda, when he was tragically stuck by a car. From that tragedy, HSRC created the DDMR. The race provides collegiate scholarships for Wake County cross country runners. In addition to the scholarships, the race also promotes shoe donations and through 2016 it has gathered over 1000 pairs of shoes for people in need.
